Fair Start Scotland Evaluation Report

In 2015, the Scottish Government undertook public consultation to develop a new approach to delivering employment support services. The consultation response was called ‘Creating a Fairer Scotland: A new future for employability support in Scotland’ which laid the foundation for the design of new services that were devolved to Scotland in 2017, having previously been delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) across the UK.

The Scottish Governance Code and Good Governance Checkup

The Scottish Governance Code for the third sector in Scotland was launched in November 2018.  It was devised by Scotland's Third Sector Governance Forum and  sets out five core principles and key elements of good governance for the boards of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises, whatever their shape, size or activities. The Code encourages trustees to look at, and improve, their governance, and is supported by practical resources.

Historic Estate set to be bought by Viewpark Community

A historic estate dating back to the 17th Century is set to be bought by the local community, thanks to a grant from the Scottish Land Fund.

The Douglas Support Estate at Viewpark in Lanarkshire occupies almost 160 acres of fields and woodland, bordered by the M8. It was previously home to Rosehall House and the foundations of which, as well as other sites of historical interest, can still be seen today. The estate, which has been fondly known as ‘Our Glen’ by locals, is a treasured green space and Viewpark Conservation Group have worked to secure the area for several years.

VANL Training Programme - Autumn/Winter

The VANL Autumn/Winter training programme is available on our website (www.vanl.co.uk) and all sessions can now be booked directly via our website using Eventbrite. For those who do not have access to the internet or if you would like help with making a booking please contact VANL on 01236 748 011.  

This programme runs from September – December 2019 and sessions focus on sector nuts and bolts, covering areas such as funding, finance, governance and IT. 

Parliamentary Inquiry into Social Prescribing

The Health and Sport Committee of the Scottish Parliament has launched an inquiry into social prescribing. 

‘Social prescribing’ is when GPs and other healthcare professionals prescribe sport, exercise and other recreational activities as a way to improve patients' health and wellbeing.

MSPs on the Committee want to hear from people across Scotland on the following issues:

Guide Dogs for the Blind are recruiting volunteers for the following roles:

 

My Guide Sighted Guide –volunteer can help by taking someone to appointments and letting them get used to doing things on their own.

Fundraiser – Take collection boxes to various places, attend events or make street collections.

Collection Box Co-ordinators – Find suitable venues for collection boxes and arrange collection on a regular basis.

National Lottery Heritage Fund – Advice Surgery

The National Lottery Heritage Fund have recently launched new programmes and priorities for the next five years and North Lanarkshire is one of their new areas of focus. They will be working with organisations and groups in the area to help support them to develop ideas and celebrate their local heritage.
